NOTES FOR NEXT CENTURY

Personal Statement
Everyone plays games. There's no doubting it. Even if someone says that they're not a 'gamer,' they'll take out the mobile device and load up a casual game while they wait for a train. Games are more pervasive than they ever were. However, it's never about quantity but about quality. Quality is something that I feel is lacking in the already saturated markets.

Quality is still too broad though. Quality could simple mean great graphics, animation, audio, etc... What is lacking are games that offer meaningful and interesting decisions that permeate on all levels of creativity from system to graphics. I strive to create games, systems, and interactions that support these things. Whether it be a digital, outdoor, or mobile experience, I want players to reflect on their gaming experience. I believe that an unanalyzed game fails to convey real meaning. In order to create a game that inspires conversation and debate, it requires that the game itself be made with thoughtful consideration and intent.

Games have the ability to educate, change, inspire, and have players question a vast many things through interaction and choice. I want to make those kinds of games and turn the tide on the public perception of what a game is.
Biography
Eric is first and foremost and game designer (games, systems, and interaction), but he does a lot of other things too. Having lived in several places around the world like New York City, Baltimore, Boston, and Hong Kong, he is a global-minded individual.

Eric currently resides in New York City and is a MFA Candidate at Parsons the New School for Design in Design & Technology (focus in game design). Even though game design is a drastic change from an undergraduate degree in Creative Writing (Johns Hopkins University), Eric is still very interested in the almost infinite possibility space that games afford. Games like Mass Effect, Fallout 3, Shadow of the Colossus, and Heavy Rain are sources of his inspiration.

Outside of tinkering with programming and game design, Eric is also a talented martial artist. He has studied the art of Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan for 6 years and has dabbled in Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, Dachengdao, Plum Flower Praying Mantis, Mixed Martial Arts, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
